Our voices change with age. It is quite melodious in childhood. Some people also speak hesitantly. But then with time the voice becomes heavy. What is the reason behind this? The same question was asked on the social media platform Quora. Let us know the correct answer.

According to BBC report, it is the vocal cords that produce the sound of your voice. It is located in the larynx. The larynx is the part of the respiratory system that allows air to pass from the throat to your lungs. When air leaves the lungs and passes through the larynx, it causes the vocal cords to vibrate. This vibration produces sound.

Vocal cords have three parts
The vocal cords are composed of the vocalis muscle, vocal ligaments, and a mucous membrane to cover them. It keeps the surfaces moist and protects them from damage. The larynx also has about 17 other muscles that can change the position and tension of the vocal cords. Due to this reason the voice also changes.

Why these changes in women
Before puberty, there is little difference in the sound produced by the vocal cords between females and males, but during puberty hormones begin to exert their influence. Due to this the structure of the larynx changes. The length of the vocal cords also changes. After puberty, the vocal cords of women also become thinner by 20-30%. Due to this thinness, the voice of women becomes thin. Even after puberty, hormonal changes continue in women. Because of this, the voice of many women changes and becomes heavy.
